The Human Centred Computing (HCC) group is concerned with the design, development and evaluation of systems with which humans interact and engage in complex and varied ways, focusing on computer graphics, data visualisation, human-computer interaction and natural language processing. We aim to develop international expertise in empirical design, user centred methodologies, visual analytics, information visualisation, natural language processing, multi-modal interfaces, human factors, and human computer interaction.
Our group includes researchers with specialisms in many areas of Computer Science, as well as secondary experience in fields such as medicine, communication and the arts. For more information and contact details about our members, you can also search the King's directory.
Dr Alfie Abdul-Rahman is a Senior Lecturer at the HCC Group. Her interests include data visualization, user-centered design of visualization applications, and visualization in Digital Humanities.
Dr Ruba Abu-Salma is a Lecturer in Computer Science at King’s College London. She uses computational and social science methods to understand and improve people’s security, privacy, and safety decision-making processes, with a focus on at-risk populations, in order to ultimately design technologies that are equitably safe across users.
Dr Rita Borgo is the head of the HCC Group, and a Reader in Data Visualisation and Artificial Intelligence.
Dr Michael Cook is a Senior Lecturer in the HCC Group. He researches AI in the context of creativity, generative systems, and game design.
Dr Seray Ibrahim is a Postdoctoral Research Associate, interested in how digital technology can help people to socially interact, learn and look after their mental wellbeing.
Dr Yijing Li is Deputy Director for CUSP London and a Senior Lecturer at the HCC Group. Her interests are human-environment interactions in urban context, applying geospatial analytics onto urban crime, health and sustainability themes.
Alexandre Nevsky is a PhD student in the Department of Informatics. His research focuses on configurable medium and media personalisation, focusing on and applying it to accessibility.
Dr Georgia Panagiotidou is a Lecturer in the HCC Group. Georgia's interests lay in the intersection of human-computer interaction, data visualisation and sustainability.
William Seymour is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Cybersecurity who conducts interdisciplinary research at the intersection of security, privacy, HCI, ethics, and law using a combination of computational and social science research methods.
Dr Petr Slovak is a UKRI Future Leaders Fellow and Senior Lecturer in the HCC group. Petr's research focused on the intersection of user-centred design, digital technology and mental health.
Dr Zheng Yuan is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Natural Language Processing (NLP) at King’s College London and a Visiting Researcher at the University of Cambridge. Her research focuses on machine learning and deep learning for NLP, including their real-world societal applications.
Dr Linus Dietz is a Research Associate at the Centre for Urban Science and Progress at King's College London, where he focuses on the intersection of urban computing, recommender systems, and data science.
